Introduction

Malaysia is a huge trading nation where manufacturing, import, export and distribution activities are important to the economic development to the country. In these sectors, goods, whether industrial or consumer goods and whether in the form of materials, semi-finished or finished forms, move from one place to another and from one party to another either across countries or within the country. Product samples, rebates, dealer incentives, warranty, consignment, sub-contracting, re-exporting, sponsorship, salesman claims are among transactions and activities that are peculiar in these sectors. There are also Free Trade Zones and Licensed Manufacturing Warehouse with special rules. Transitional issues may include effect on those goods currently subject to Sales Tax as well as long term contracts (such as tenancy of factories) entered into before GST period.

In this training trainer will explain and discuss with actual examples where available and relevant how the GST principles and rules apply to these sectors, the GST treatment on those peculiar activities and transactions in these sectors, special GST schemes available as well as the transitional issues and provisions involved. The objective is to enable the participants to gain a good understanding of the effect of GST as well as preparing for the implementation and compliance of the GST when it is effective on 1st April 2015.
